Butterfly Identification Workshop, Last page  First Page

Different species fly as adult butterflies at different times of year. This can help with identification; for example, if you see a blue butterfly in late June or early July, and you don't get a chance to see its underwing, it is more than likely a Common Blue as that is the only blue species flying at that time in North Wales (unless you are on the Great Orme or one of a couple of other sites where Silver-studded Blues live.) The table below shows the flight periods of all the North Wales species in chronological order (which can be quite different from other parts of the country) - you can print it off and stick it in the back of your Butterfly ID book; from this link; Flightperiods-chrono. (PDF file - may take a little while to appear. click here to read it if your computer does not already have Adobe acrobat software; www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html)

To reinforce this knowledge, come on one of our guided walks or ID courses;
