About the Argent and Sable In the past, this day-flying species was known from scattered locations throughout North Wales. However, there are only recent sightings from two sites: Fenn's Moss on the border with Shropshire and Cors Goch, Trawsfynydd. The latter colony was discovered very recently (2010) but in spite of various designations (SSSI & SAC) the future is uncertain due to agricultural improvements. Why the species should have declined generally is unclear as there appears to be suitable habitat in many areas. Look for this moth in areas with Bog Myrtle and/or scattered young birch trees. Be aware, however, that there is the possibilty of confusion with the much more common Small Argent and Sable.
