BC National Action Plan for Wales - High Priority Species*
Transparent Burnet
Zygaena purpuralis
Presumed extinct. Not seen since the 1960s.
Northern Footman
Eilema
complana f. sericea
Traditionally considered as a species in its own right (Eilema seicea),
the taxanomic status has been downgraded to that of a form of Eilema
complana, the Scarce Footman. Confusingly, the Scarce Footman was
considered common whilst the Northern Footman was considered a great rarity,
mostly known from Fenn's and Whixall Mosses. However, it has recently become
apparent that the Northern Footman is the common form in northwest Wales. The
status elsewhere in Wales has yet to be determined.
Rosy Marsh Moth
Eugraphe subrosea
This moth was thought to be extinct in Britain but was rediscovered in North
Wales in 1965. However, it subsequently became apparent that the main colonies are
further south with the largest population occurring on Borth Bog in
Cardiganshire.
