About the Waved Carpet

Very little is known about the status and distribution of this moth in North Wales as there are so few records. However, it is known to be present - the specimen photographed was netted, in the daytime, in a wood between Bala and Dolgellau in June, 2002.

Seven specimens were taken (in actinic light traps) at the same location near Dolgellau on the 14th June 2004. The habitat at this site consists of Hazel, Alder and Birch woodland growing along a disused railway by a river. The fact that similar habitat extends up and down this river and along many others in northwest Wales raises the possibilty that the species is under-recorded rather than truly scarce.
